India’s historic athletics triumph came on a memorable Day 11, which also saw Neeru Dhanda win gold in the women’s trap event.
Olympic champion Abhinav Bindra congratulated Dhanda and the women’s relay team, praising their performances for inspiring a new generation of athletes.
“Somewhere across India, young girls will have watched them and thought, ‘I want to do that. I can do that,’” Bindra wrote on X, underlining the wider significance of the athletes’ achievements.
Earlier, India also secured bronze in the mixed 4x100m relay. Gurindervir Singh, Animesh Kujur, Sneha Sathyanarayana and Harita Bhadra clocked a season-best 41.06 seconds to finish third.
But the day belonged to India’s women’s 4x400m relay quartet, whose golden run delivered a historic first-ever athletics gold for India at the Asian Games.
