GANGTOK, OCT 9: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang visited landslide-affected Rimbi village under the Yuksom-Tashiding Assembly Constituency on Thursday to assess the damage and review relief and rehabilitation measures for affected families.

During the visit, the Chief Minister inspected the landslide site and the under-construction rehabilitation centre before proceeding to the relief camp, where he interacted with affected families, listened to their concerns and assessed their immediate needs.
As part of the relief measures, cheques and cash assistance under the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) were handed over to affected families in accordance with the prescribed norms and the extent of damage sustained.

Similarly, Rs. 1 lakh each for other affected individuals and Rs. 50,000 each for tenants affected by the disaster from Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
The Chief Minister also assured the affected families of housing and land support to facilitate their rehabilitation. He stated that houses would be provided to families who had lost their homes under the State Government’s Sikkim Garib Aawas Yojana (SGAY), while land would be allotted to those who had lost their land.
He further said that suitable land with additional space would be considered for the affected families to enable them to maintain kitchen gardens and rear livestock, thereby supporting their long-term livelihood requirements.

The Chief Minister also directed the concerned departments to expedite essential works and ensure the timely restoration of services in the affected area. He stressed the need for close coordination among the line departments to address the challenges arising from the landslide and ensure that assistance reached the affected families without delay.
